Gum disease can be treated!

Gum disease causes more tooth loss than tooth decay. Our comprehensive range of periodontal therapy treatments help patients fight off gum disease so they can keep their teeth for life.

What is Gum Disease?

Plaque and tartar bacteria that build up on the roots of the teeth, under the gum line, gradually cause infection that makes the gums detach from the teeth. Slowly, deep gum pockets form and bone loss occurs.

Mobility and tooth loss are the ultimate outcome if gum disease isn’t treated professionally.

We offer three phases of treatment for gum disease

Phase 1 – Full Mouth Debridement – Removes heavy tartar buildup so we can better assess your level of gum disease.

Phase 2 – Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning) – Each tooth and gum pocket is thoroughly cleaned. This takes more time than a regular cleaning, and, as such, we usually only clean ¼ to ½ of the mouth in a single appointment. Most patients require two appointments for a full deep cleaning.

Phase 3 – Periodontal Maintenance Program – Once you’ve had a deep cleaning, it’s important to maintain the results to move toward greater healing. Our periodontal maintenance program will bring you into the office as often as every 3 to 4 months to clean the areas that have suffered most from gum disease. As your condition improves, appointments will be further apart.

VSP has been great in resolving all of my dental problems, and I can confidently say that I feel much better about my smile than when I first walked into their office about a year ago. I cannot say enough about the staff at VSP either. They are simply wonderful.

Kiana is doing wonderfully well. It really impressed me when she exited the office. She was so happy. She told me it didn’t hurt. She was very please with the outcome and so was I. Thanks Dr. Patel, and thanks to all that work with you for making this day a wonderful experience for her.
